Memories of Our Square

Coming Soon…

For many people, Huddersfield’s St George’s Square is the first thing they see when they arrive in our town, whether they have come here to start a new life or because they are just visiting. And even if we have lived in Huddersfield all our lives it is likely that we have spent time at an event here or passed through on our way to and from the railway station.

We all have our own different memories of the Square – arrivals and departures, festivals and food, trains and trolley buses, pubs and protests, music and dance, royal visits and rugby and much more…

Huddersfield Local History Society is inviting you to share your memories and photos by sending them to this dedicated website which we will be launching very shortly.

This new website will also include a timeline outlining the story of St George’s Square and its magnificent buildings as well as a series of articles on aspects of its history.

Huddersfield Local History Society is a member of the Huddersfield High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) Consortium. The Consortium has recently been awarded a £90,000 grant from Historic England to support community-led cultural activities over the next three years focusing on the Huddersfield’s Heritage Action Zone in and around St George’s Square.
